I signed up for the 2007 San Francisco Marathon, so it's time to start training again.
The previous three weekends I did 9, 12, and 14 miles. Yesterday was another long one at 16 miles. I'm really happy with my pace, 9:29/mile, at only 135 bpm. When I ran the half marathon last October, I averaged a 9:31 pace at 153 bpm-- and near the end, keeping a 9 min/mile pace sent my HR up to 155-160. So there's been measurable progress.
It's not all roses, though. My IT band soreness from last season is coming back. It's not as bad as it was before, but 16 miles was as far as I could push it without turning it into a real injury. I'm in the appointment queue for PT, so hopefully I can head off any serious problems this year.
I'm sticking with the twice-weekly swimming regimen that I started in February for the triathlon. Progress in the pool comes SO slowly it is frustrating. For now I have to look at it purely as cross-training rather than as a competitive event.
